Behind a seven-point performance from senior Hollis Humprhies, Morristown-Beard advanced to the Non-Public first round with a 7-0 win over Gill St. Bernard’s at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.
Humphries finished with two goals and five assists for the Crimson (10-12), who will face fifth-seeded Princeton Day in the first round next week. Nick Squashic had two goals and three assists, while Ryan Tartaglione added two goals and two assists. Evan Jones chipped in with a goal and an assist. Pierce Brucker recorded a 13-save shutout.
Luc Jansson made 34 saves for Gill St. Bernard’s (5-8-2).
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17
9-KJS United 2, 24-Lacey-Barnegat 1
Anthony Pandiscia and Anthony Prunty each scored a goal in the first period, and KJS United held on the rest of the way for a 2-1 win over Lacey-Barnegat in the Public C preliminary round at Skylands Ice World.
KJS United (14-5-1) out-shot Lacey-Barnegat, 43-16 in the game. Lacey-Barnegat goalie Lucas Holland made 41 saves in the loss, while Colin Costello scored in the third period to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Rylan Gibbons stopped 15 of 16 shots for KJS United, which will take on the winner of tomorrow’s game between eighth-seeded Toms River South-East and 25th-seeded Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown.
19-Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex 4, 14-Tenafly-Cresskill 2
Jimmy Hathaway scored two goals, including the game-winner with 3:35 left to lift Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex to a 4-2 win over Tenafly-Cresskill in the Public C preliminary round at Mackay Park.
Tim Jelinek and Hathaway each scored in the first two periods for BSM (13-4-2), which took a 2-1 lead going into the third. It gave up a shorthanded goal to Tenafly-Cresskill’s Caleb Kim midway through the third to tie it, but Hathaway was able to bury the go-ahead goal and Ryan Leonard sealed it with an empty-netter in the final seconds.
Baylyn Shankman stopped 26 shots for BSM, which will travel to face third-seeded Woodbridge Twp. on Tuesday in the first round.
12-Howell-Matawan 4, 21-Park Regional 0
Despite out-shooting Howell-Matawan 44-39, Park Regional fell in the preliminary round of the Public C tournament, 4-0, at Howell Ice Arena.
Nico Calandra had two goals and an assist for Howell-Matawan (13-5-5). Matt Gresko added a goal and two assists, while Aidan Garced also scored. Goalie Robert Petillo stopped all 44 shots he faced to earn the shtuout.
Dylan Marion stopped 29 of 33 shots for Park Regional, which saw its season end with a 9-11-3 record. Anthony Perrello made six saves in relief of Marion.
