Delbarton goaltender Jason Cai and Montville forward Matthew Trifari were selected as two of the New Jersey Devils’ Players of the Month for January.
Each month, the Devils honor nine players- one from each of the eight boys conferences and one from girls hockey- as Players of the Month, as selected by nominations from the media. Winners and their guests receive tickets to a Devils home game, and also get a certificate presented by a Devils player and an RWJ Barnabas Health representative.
Cai, a senior from Delbarton, was picked as the representative from the Gordon Conference. He backstopped his team to a 7-1-1 record in the month of January in helping his squad preserve the No. 1 ranking in NJ.com’s Top 20. He gave up 1.33 goals per game with two shutouts in January, and also posted an impressive .944 save percentage.
Trifari, a junior forward from Montville, was honored as the representative from the MCSSIHL. He helped his team go 5-1-1 in the month of January, scoring nine goals and registering 10 assists for a total of 19 points. He found his way onto the scoresheet in each of Montville’s seven games in January.
