Mendham 3, Mountain Lakes-Boonton 0
Connor McDonough recorded a 21 save shutout to lift 13th seed Mendham to a 3-0 win over 20th seed Mountain Lakes-Boonton in the first round of the NJSIAA Public C tournament at Mennen Arena.
The game was a match-up of the Halvorsen (Mendham) and Haas Cup (Mountain Lakes) winners. Ryan Bruin scored twice in the final 2:16 of the second period, including a buzzer-beater to build a 2-0 lead. Liam Lloyd added a goal in the win.
Mendham will travel to face fourth seed Rumson-Fair Haven in the Round of 16 on Friday at 3 p.m. at Red Bank Armory.
Madison 8, Millburn 4 (Public C first round)
Aidan Niceberg had a hat trick and an assist to lift 17th seed Madison to an 8-4 win over 16th seed Millburn in the first round of the NJSIAA Public C tournament at Codey Arena.
Matt Leone scored twice for Madison, which avenged a 2-0 loss to Millburn from Jan. 26. Sean Hoover and Jacob Erickson each had a goal and an assist, while Andrew Haralampoudis also scored. Cormac McNamara dished out three assists in the win.
Madison advanced to the Round of 16, where it will face top seed Summit on Friday at 4:10 p.m. at Union Sports Arena.
Montville 4, Johnson 1 (Public C first round)
Montville, seeded 12th, took down 21st seed Johnson in the first round of the Public C tournament at Mennen Arena.
Robert Bio, Brendan Perretta, Danny Scheine and Connor Perez each scored for the Mustangs. Montville advanced to the Round of 16 on Thursday, where it will face fifth seed Manasquan-Point Pleasant Beach.
Pope John 4, Oratory 0 (Non-Public first round)
Alex Blaszak scored twice and had an assist to lift 15th seed Pope John to a 4-0 win over 18th seed Oratory in the first round of the Non-Public tournament at Skylands Ice World.
Lucas Buchanan had a goal and two assists for Pope John. Chris Abate added a goal, while Tyler Paluzzi made 21 saves to secure the shutout.
Pope John will face second seed Don Bosco Prep in the Round of 16.
