Chatham, behind another Olnowich shutout, claims Essex Holiday Tournament title

It was as good of a performance as could be expected from Chatham during its three games in the Essex Holiday Tournament this week.

The Cougars, backboned by senior goalie Jennifer Olnowich, did not surrender a single goal in its three games in this tournament, and capped it off with a 3-0 win over Oratory on Friday at Codey Arena.

During this three-game stretch, it took down Vernon (6-0), Verona-Glen Ridge (4-0), before its win on Friday.

Olnowich turned aside all 15 shots she faced on Friday, and also made 34 saves against Verona-Glen Ridge and 20 against Vernon. She has posted an impressive .951 save percentage in six starts this season.

Offensively, Chatham’s offense got rolling in the second period against Oratory, as Brandon Lupi and Ryan Sordillo each scored to build a 2-0 advantage. Sordillo buried his second late in the third to help put the game away.

“I thought we did a good job in the second and third of getting more pucks towards the net and not playing on the perimeter,” Chatham coach Brendon Herr said. “Our goaltending was excellent over the last three games of this tournament as Jenn Olnowich recorded her third straight shutout. It’s always nice to get a win and bring home some hardware in the middle of the season and gives our group a lot of confidence moving forward.”

Quinn Kelly, Will White, Ryan Mancino, Declan Curry, and Gabe Park all recorded assists for Chatham, which improved its record to 5-1-2. It will be back in action on Jan. 3 when it faces Jackson Liberty, before resuming Mennen Division play on Jan. 8 against Morristown-Beard.
