By Mike Gurnis

Jessica Sperling had a hat trick to lead top-seeded Morristown-Beard to a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Princeton Day in the girls NJSIAA tournament semifinals at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

Sperling opened the scoring 54 seconds into the game, before Kailin Kane and Sperling scored under two minutes apart in the second to build a 3-0 lead. Lili Warnock added on to the tally early in the third, and then Sperling completed the hat trick with 3:06 to go.

Morristown-Beard out-shot Princeton Day, 51-18 in the game, with PDS goalie Brigid Milligan making 46 saves.

Warnock and Kane each had a goal and two assists for Morristown-Beard, which will face second-seeded Pingry in the final on Monday at 1:15 p.m. at Prudential Center. It will be Morristown-Beard’s third-straight appearance in the final, and will look to remain the only girls state champion with a win.

Gracie Meyers stopped all 18 shots she faced to earn her fourth shutout of the year.
