Morris Knolls-Hills 5, Ocean Township-Shore-Monmouth 3
Ryan Manz scored the go-ahead goal with 7:52 remaining to propel fourth-seeded Morris Knolls-Hills to a 5-3 win over 13th-seeded Ocean Township-Shore-Monmouth in the Public C first round at Mennen Arena.
After falling behind in the opening seconds, Knolls-Hills scored three straight goals in the first period, with Luke Dickerson scoring twice and Bryan McCarter also scoring to build a 3-1 lead. Alex Haar scored the second of his two goals just before the end of the first, before Aiden Mumm scored in the third to tie the game for Ocean Township-Shore-Monmouth.
But Manz broke the tie, before Michael Simone sealed it with an empty-net goal late.
Morris Knolls-Hills will face fifth-seeded Verona-Glen Ridge in the quarterfinals, which are to be played by Monday.
Randolph 9, Roxbury 0
Daniel Sharkey had a hat trick to lead third-seeded Randolph to a 9-0 win over 14th-seeded Roxbury in the first round of the Public B Tournament at SportsCare Arena.
Zach Gallo and Brian Cislo each had a goal and two assists for Randolph (14-3-4). Ryan Potanovich and Jase Zangara each dished out three assists.
Randolph is on to the quarterfinals, where it will take on the winner of tomorrow night’s game between 11th-seeded Mendham and sixth-seeded Ramapo.
Roxbury’s season ends at 11-8.
Delbarton 10, Montclair Kimberley 0
Delbarton’s top line of Duncan Stewart, Nick Faccone, and Trip Pendy each tallied at least six points in leading the top-seeded Green Wave to a dominant 10-0 win over 16th-seeded Montclair Kimberley in the first round of the Non-Public Tournament.
Stewart had a goal and six assists, Faccone had two goals and four assists, while Pendy finished with three goals and three assists for Delbarton (19-2-1). Timmy Galvin added a goal and two assists, while Teddy Foley stopped all three shots he faced to earn the shutout.
Delbarton will face ninth-seeded St. John Vianney in the quarterfinals.
Princeton Day 5, Morristown-Beard 2
Julian Melendez put together a spectacular 52-save effort, but 12th-seeded Morristown-Beard surrendered three late goals in the third period to fall, 5-2 to fifth-seeded Princeton Day in the first round of the Non-Public Tournament at Lisa McGraw Rink.
Hollis Humphries netted two goals in his final high school game, as Morristown-Beard took a 2-2 tie into the third period. But Princeton Day’s Brady Logue scored with 4:09 left in the third to give his team the lead, before it added an empty-net goal to seal it before tacking on a goal in the final seconds.
Morristown-Beard finished its season at 10-13. Princeton Day will face fourth-seeded Gloucester Catholic in the quarterfinals.
Girls: Kent Place 3, Randolph 0
Stephanie Xhumba made 28 saves, but 10th-seeded Randolph ultimately fell, 3-0 to seventh-seeded Kent Place in the NJSIAA Tournament at RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House.
Randolph’s season ends at 6-8-1. Kent Place will face second-seeded Pingry in the quarterfinals on Monday.
Girls: Summit 8, Madison 0
Iris Piskula made 49 saves for 12th-seeded Madison, as it lost, 8-0 to fifth-seeded Summit in the NJSIAA Tournament at Warinanco Skating Center.
Madison’s season came to an end with a 2-12 record. Summit will take on either 13th-seeded Newark East Side or fourth-seeded Princeton Day in the quarterfinals.
