Morris/Sussex NJSIAA Tournament recap for Feb. 18

Toms River South-East 2, Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown 0
Liam Magovern and Ryan Fortunato each scored goals in the final five minutes of the game to propel eighth-seeded Toms River South-East to a 2-0 win over 25th-seeded MOHOHA in the preliminary round of the Public C Tournament at Winding River Rink in Toms River.

Nick Gargiulo stopped 19 of 20 shots for MOHOHA, which finished the season with a 10-11-1 record. Toms River South-East out-shot MOHOHA, 21-19 in the game.

Chase Witt made 19 saves to earn the shutout for Toms River South-East, which will host ninth-seeded KJS United in the first round on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Winding River Rink.

Verona-Glen Ridge 3, High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny 0
Despite a 40-save effort from Tyler Boffa, 28th-seeded High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny fell, 3-0 to fifth-seeded Verona-Glen Ridge in the preliminary round of the Public C Tournament at Codey Arena in West Orange.

High Point was out-shot, 43-10 in the game, but Boffa kept his team within striking distance. It finished the season with a 10-10 record.

Rowan Brennan buried. two goals for Verona-Glen Ridge, while Evan Twitchell had the other. James Benson dished out two assists and Eli Gottlieb stopped all 10 shots he faced to earn the shutout.

Verona-Glen Ridge will host 12th-seeded Howell-Matawan in the first round on Monday at 6 p.m. at Codey Arena.
