Morristown-Beard girls earn top seed in inaugural Librera Cup; Locals also qualify for Cohen Cup

This season marked the first season of New Jersey girls hockey being a part of the NJIIHL, with the teams being split into the Librera and Cohen Divisions.

With that, there will be cup tournaments for both divisions, and there will be Morris County area teams to keep an eye on.

In the Libera Cup, defending state champion Morristown-Beard (9-3-3, 7-0-3 Librera) will be the top seed for the inaugural edition of the tournament. It received a first round bye, and will take on the winner between fourth-seeded Princeton Day and fifth-seeded Summit in the semifinals, which is to be played by Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The final is set for Thursday, Feb. 16 at Codey Arena, with faceoff set for shortly after 6:15 p.m.

The Cohen Cup, on the other hand, will include Randolph, Chatham-Millburn, and Madison. Chatham-Millburn (7-4-3, 6-2-3 Cohen) is the third seed, and will face sixth-seeded Madison (2-8) in the first round on Wednesday (3 p.m., Mennen Arena). Randolph, on the other hand, is the fourth seed, and will battle fifth-seeded Westfield sometime this week.

The semifinals for Cohen are set to be played by Monday, Feb. 13, with the final slated for 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Codey Arena.
