Morris-Sussex Hockey Report 3 Stars of the Week and Top 10 for Jan. 8

THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
Jase Zangara, Randolph, F, So.: The sophomore continued his big year with a hat trick in a 7-1 win over Morristown, followed by a two-goal performance in a 3-1 win over Chatham to take over first place in the Mennen. He now has 11 goals and five assists on the year for the Rams.

Rylan Gibbons, Kinnelon-Jefferson-Sparta, G, Jr.: Gibbons has been nothing short of outstanding for an upstart KJS United squad this season, and he continued that this week. He stopped 29 of 30 shots in a big 4-1 win over Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown, before stopping all 27 shots in a 6-0 shutout of Old Tappan. In total, he has a .952 save percentage this season in leading his team to a 7-1-1 record.

Trip Pendy, Delbarton, F, Sr.: Pendy, who was absent from last year’s Non-Public state final loss to Christian Brothers due to injury, came through for his team in the rematch on Wednesday. He scored a pair of goals to lead Delbarton to a 4-1 win over CBA in a matchup of NJ.com’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams, and that win will presumably vault Delbarton into the statewide No. 1 spot.
