Jan. 6 Notebook: Delbarton edges Pope John, Roxbury prevails

Delbarton 2, Pope John 1
Delbarton improved to 7-0 with a narrow 2-1 win over Pope John at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.

A pair of power play goals in the first period from Nick Faccone and Brandon Shaffer proved to be the difference for the Green Wave. Matt Hughes scored the lone goal for Pope John in the first period, and that 2-1 margin held up for the remainder of the game.

Jason Cai stopped 14 of 15 shots for Delbarton, while Tyler Paluzzi made 23 saves for Pope John. Pope John dropped to 5-5 with the loss, and fell just short of earning its first-ever win over Delbarton.

Roxbury 4, Park Regional 3
Jake Calanni had a goal and two assists- including the game-winner early in the third period- to lift Roxbury to a 4-3 victory over Park Regional at Mennen Arena.

Roxbury (6-1) improved to 2-1 in the Haas Division and moved into a second-place tie with Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex, as Tyler Petersen scored a pair of goals in the first period to give the Gaels a 2-0 lead. Park Regional’s Chase Olszewski netted two goals, including the game-tying goal in the third period which came just 1:39 before Calanni’s go-ahead goal.

Park Regional fell to 4-4-2 overall with an 0-2-1 mark in the Haas Division.

Michael Guadagnino stopped 27 of 30 shots for Roxbury.
