Morris Knolls-Hills 2, Morristown 1
Aiden Chominsky stopped 29 of 30 shots and Kyle Thornton buried the go-ahead goal in the third period to lead Morris Knolls-Hills to a 2-1 win over Morristown at Mennen Arena.
This game pitted the top team in the Mennen (Morris Knolls-Hills) against the top team in the Halvorsen (Morristown). After a scoreless first period, Jack Langan put home the rebound of a Brody Toye shot to give Morristown the lead 4:02 into the second period. But Knolls-Hills’ Michael Simone scored just over three minutes later to tie it up.
Then, in the third period, Thornton scored 5:37 in to give Knolls-Hills the lead. Despite being out-shot 11-4 in the final period, Knolls-Hills was able to hang on for the win thanks to Chominsky’s performance in net.
Morris Knolls-Hills improved to 12-5-1 with the win, while Morristown fell to 12-4-3.
West Morris 5, Vernon 2
Benjamin Willmott had a hat trick to lead West Morris to a 5-2 win over Vernon in a key Haas Division game at Mennen Arena.
Max Michalski and Tommy Togno each scored for West Morris, which upped its record to 11-4 (5-3 Haas) with the victory. It moved into second place in the Haas Division, while Vernon fell to 3-5 in division play with a 6-8 overall record, which puts the team in a tough spot in terms of reaching .500 to automatically qualify for the state tournament.
Evan Steinbach scored both goals for Vernon. Phil Togno stopped 24 of 26 shots in the win for West Morris.
Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex 5, Park Regional 2
Ryan Leonard had a goal and four assists to propel Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex to a 5-2 win over Park Regional at Mennen Arena.
Dylan Leonard had two goals and an assist for BSM, which improved to 11-1-2 overall. It also is an impressive 5-0-1 against the Haas Division this season with this win. Tanner Clemson netted two goals, while Baylyn Shankman made 18 saves in the win.
Ed Karpinski and Mike Monahan each had a goal for Park Regional, which dropped to 7-8-2 with the loss.
Girls: Morristown-Beard 5, Summit 0
Jessica Sperling scored twice with an assist to lead Morristown-Beard to a 5-0 win over Summit at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.
Julie Jasaitis had a goal and an assist for Morristown-Beard, which improved to 9-1-1 with the win. Katie Ewig and Logan Sutera each had a goal, while Kailin Kane dished out two assists. Gracie Meyers stopped all 12 shots to secure the shutout.
Girls: Oak Knoll 5, Randolph 1
Steph Martin scored the lone goal for Randolph in a 5-1 loss to Oak Knoll.
Stephanie Xhumba made 29 saves for Randolph, which fell to 4-7 with the loss.
