Dec. 27 roundup: Gleie sends Mendham past Chatham, Pope John erupts for 12 goals in win

MONDAY, DECEMBER 27

Mendham 7, Chatham 4
E.J. Gleie scored four goals to lift Mendham to a 7-4 win over Chatham in the Essex Holiday Tournament at Codey Arena.

Mac Goggin had four assists for Mendham, which extended its unbeaten streak to five (4-0-1) and improved its overall record to 4-2-1. Tristan Aikenhead had a goal and three assists, while Griffin Jozefek had a goal and two assists. Ian Tamboowalla added a goal and an assist in the win.

Gavin Thrun made 21 saves in the win.

Chatham fell to 3-6-1.

Pope John 12, Pingry 3
Nathan Meola recorded six points, including a goal and five assists, as Pope John erupted for 12 goals in a 12-3 win over Pingry in the Protec Ponds Holiday Tournament at Protec Ponds.

Brandan Young had a hat trick and an assist for Pope John, which improved to 3-2-3. Jack Kelmer added two goals and an assist, while Jake Stevens struck for a pair of goals. Emporio Iencio dished out two assists, and Jack Jarosiewicz and Matt Hughes each had a goal and an assist in the win.

Morristown 2, Passaic Tech 0
Just one day after a 3-1 loss to a strong Middletown North squad, Morristown bounced back with a 2-0 win over Passaic Tech in the Ice Vault Holiday Classic.

Thatcher Neville stopped all 19 shots he faced to secure the shutout for Morristown. Collin McKenna and Harry Santen each chipped in with a goal, while Brody Toye had two assists.

Morristown out-shot Passaic Tech, 34-19 in the game. Morristown improved to 6-2-2 on the season.

Madison 4, Watchung Hills 2
Behind two goals and two assists from Sam Gero, Madison defeated Watchung Hills, 4-2 in the Essex Holiday Tournament at Codey Arena.

Madison built a 3-0 lead through two periods on goals from Andrew Haralampoudis, John Rusen, and Gero. Watchung Hills scored twice in the opening five minutes of the second period to cut it to 3-2, but Gero scored with 1:13 left to seal the win.

It was Madison’s second win in a row as it improved to 3-6-1 this season.

Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth 7, Johnson-Dayton-Union 2
Declan Norton had five assists for Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth in a 7-2 win over Johnson-Dayton-Union at Mennen Arena.

Evan Lord had a hat trick and an assist for Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth. Nick DiGeronimo had two goals and an assist, while Mercer Acuna and Averee Acuna each had a goal and an assist.

Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth improved to 2-5-2 with the win.

West Orange 6, Parsippany Regional 1
David Zilinskis scored the lone goal for Parsippany Regional in a 6-1 loss to West Orange in the Essex Holiday Tournament.

Giovanni Nigro made 25 saves for Parsippany Regional, which fell to 0-6-1.

Girls: Trinity Hall 11, Randolph 1
Steph Martin scored the lone goal for Randolph in an 11-1 loss to Trinity Hall at Mennen Arena.

Stephanie Xhumba made 38 saves in the loss. Randolph fell to 2-4.
