Dec. 16 roundup: Madison and Mendham tie, West Morris wins, Vernon shuts out Park Regional

Madison 4, Mendham 4
Liam O’Hearen’s power play goal with 5:02 remaining helped Madison earn a 4-4 tie with Mendham at Mennen Arena.

Mendham led, 3-1 early in the second period behind two goals from Griffin Jozefek and one from Michael Gionco. Tyler Shannon and Sam Gero each scored for Madison late in the second to tie the game up, before Tristan Aikenhead netted a goal three minutes into the third period for Mendham.

Liam Lloyd had two assists for Mendham, while Aikenhead also had an assist. Cormac McNamara had two assists, while Kyle Piechnik, O’Hearen, Gero, and Shannon each had an assist as well.

Madison is now 1-4-1 and will face Morristown on Saturday. Mendham is now 1-2-1 and has a date with Roxbury on Saturday.

West Morris 3, Gill St. Bernard’s 1
Despite a 48-save performance by Gill St. Bernard’s goalie Alex Steinberg, West Morris was able to prevail, 3-1 at Mennen Arena.

Max Michalski and Ben Wilmott each had a goal and an assist for West Morris, which improved to 3-1 on the season and out-shot Gill St. Bernard’s 51-8 in the game.

West Morris will take on Hopewell Valley on Friday. Gill St. Bernard’s dropped to 0-1 in the team’s season opener, and will face Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex on Friday.

Vernon 5, Park Regional 0
Evan Steinbach and Dylan Shea scored two goals apiece in Vernon’s 5-0 win over Park Regional at Mennen Arena.

Christopher Gay also scored for Vernon, which improved its record to 5-2. It will face Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown on Saturday.

Park Regional fell to 3-1-1 and will face Montville on Saturday.
