Nov. 27 roundup: Vernon opens new era with dominant win

Dylan Shea tallied three goals and four assists and Evan Steinbach netted four goals to help Vernon open the Christian Conway-era with a 12-2 win at Skylands Ice World.

It was the first win for Conway, who is in his first year as head coach after being a long-time assistant to Ray Zimmerman.

Lucas Brennan had a hat trick and Devin England netted two goals for Vernon, which led 6-1 after the first period. Jonathan Chromcik dished out three assists, while Christopher Gay and Luke Zabriskie each had two assists in the win.

Vernon out-shot Johnson, 66-9 in the game.

Pascack Valley-Hills 7, High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny 2
After a back-and-forth first period, Pascack Valley-Hills scored five unanswered goals to knock off High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.

Luca Carnemolla scored the game’s opening goal with 9:31 left for High Point-Wallkill-Kittatinny, before Zack Groves and Tyler Rothstein scored to give Pascack Valley-Hills the lead. Carnemolla tied it with 23 seconds left in the first, and High Point had the opportunity to take the lead with a power play to start the second period. But Rothstein scored shorthanded 20 seconds into the second period, before Groves and Hunter Donne scored to make it 5-2 after two periods.

High Point-Wallkill-Valley-Kittatinny dropped to 0-1.

Northern Valley 4, Newton-Lenape Valley 2
Newton-Lenape Valley saw a 2-1 lead in the second period slip away, as it surrendered three-unanswered in a season-opening loss at Skylands Ice World.

Ryan Lynch gave Newton-Lenape Valley the lead with just over three minutes to go in the first. After Northern Valley tied it early in the second, Lukas Krauklis scored five minutes later to give Newton-Lenape Valley the lead. Northern Valley’s Sam Vilkin tied the game with just over five minutes left in the period, before Joe Legato scored with one second left in the second to give his team the lead for good.

Brendan Rie added an insurance goal with 1:03 left in the third for Northern Valley.

Newton-Lenape Valley out-shot Northern Valley, 23-19 in the game. Aidan Urbano made 15 saves for Newton-Lenape Valley, while Gianluca Palazzolo stopped 21 shots for Northern Valley.
