Here’s a look at this week’s Morris-Sussex Hockey Report Top 5 rankings.
1-Delbarton (3-1)
Delbarton returned to the ice this week with a bang- a stunning 3-2 win over the No. 1 ranked team in the state in Christian Brothers. It followed that up with a loss to Seton Hall Prep on Wednesday, but bounced back with a big win over St. Peter’s Prep on Thursday.
2-Morristown-Beard (2-1-1)
The Crimson came back from COVID-19 quarantine on Friday with a dominant 6-1 win over The Hun School. It has a very busy week ahead, as it will take on rival Morristown on Sunday night, Morris Knolls-Hills on Monday, Rumson-Fair Haven on Wednesday, and Morris Knolls-Hills once again on Saturday night.
3-Morris Knolls-Hills (3-3-1)
It was a tough week for Morris Knolls-Hills, as it dropped a tough 6-1 loss to the state’s No. 3 team in Bergen Catholic on Wednesday, before falling in a hard-fought game against a strong Rumson-Fair Haven team which had knocked off two Top 20 teams prior to Friday night. It has two battles with Morristown-Beard and one with Morristown on the docket this week.
4-Randolph (2-1-1)
Randolph was idle this week as games were postponed due to COVID. It is unknown if the Rams will take the ice prior to the Mennen Cup, which is slated to begin on Friday, Feb. 26.
5-Chatham (2-3)
Chatham, like Randolph, was also idle this week. It is also unknown when the Cougars will return to the ice.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Evan Steinbach, Vernon, Jr. Forward
Steinbach put together an eye-popping eight-point performance on Saturday night in a dominant 11-3 win over Morris Catholic. He scored four times, and dished out four assists, assisting on three of his older brother Ayden’s five goals in the game.
