HIGH POINT-WALLKILL VALLEY 5, NEWTON-LENAPE VALLEY 1
A four-goal second period helped propel High Point-Wallkill Valley to a big 5-1 win over Newton-Lenape Valley on Saturday at Skylands Ice World.
After Luca Carnemolla opened the scoring in the first period, High Point-Wallkill Valley received goals from Brandon Mudrick, Carnemolla, Devin Haines, and Gordon Shindelman to put the team up by a commanding 5-0 score.
Haines finished with a goal and three assists, while T.J. Ward stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced. It’s a big opening day win for High Point-Wallkill Valley (1-0), which got an early leg up in the Charette Division race.
Michael Cinotti scored the lone goal for Newton-Lenape Valley in the third period, assisted by Cameron Cherry.
VERNON 3, GILL ST. BERNARD’S 3
Joey Martin’s goal with 31 seconds left in the third period helped Vernon erase a two-goal deficit to preserve a 3-3 tie with Gill St. Bernard’s at Skylands Ice World.
Gill St. Bernard’s built a 3-1 lead through two periods on the backs of a two-goal performance from Logan Mote, as well as a goal from his brother Christian Mote. But Vernon began the comeback 2:02 into the third when T.J. Quimby buried his first goal of the year.
Lucas Brennan scored for Vernon in the first period, and Ozzie Deluca stopped 33 of 36 shots for the Vikings (0-0-1).
Alex Steinberg made 30 saves for Gill St. Bernard’s (0-0-1).
MOUNT OLIVE-HOPATCONG-HACKETTSTOWN 4, PARK REGIONAL 0
Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown used a balanced offensive effort in a 4-0 season-opening win over Park Regional at Mennen Arena.
Adam Twist, Frank Diloreto, J.L. O’Toole and Ethan Tillery each scored for Mount Olive. Just as impressively, the team’s defense held Park Regional to just 10 shots in the game, and goalie Dante Duteau stopped all of them to earn the shutout.
Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown opens the year at 1-0 in the Haas Division, while Park Regional fell to 0-1.
