Jan. 15 recap: Madison shuts out Mountain Lakes, Mendham and KJS United tie

MADISON 4, MOUNTAIN LAKES-BOONTON 0

Aidan Niceberg scored twice and Keaton Tom turned aside all 26 shots he faced to propel Madison to a 4-0 win over Mountain Lakes-Boonton at Mennen Arena.

Liam O’Hearen and Matty Gero each had a goal and an assist for Madison (1-0), which picked up a win in the debut for first-year head coach Joe Cecala. Jacoby Erickson dished out two assists.

Cullen Fagan made 28 saves for Mountain Lakes-Boonton (0-1).

MENDHAM 5, KJS UNITED 5

Thanks to a hat-trick from Liam Lloyd, Mendham rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 5-5 tie with KJS United at Skylands Ice World.

KJS United (Kinnelon-Jefferson-Sparta), in its debut as a tri-op program, built an early 2-0 lead on goals from James Battaglia and Matthew Espinosa. But a 4-2 lead in the second period quickly evaporated, as Lloyd scored twice in 1:27 to tie the game late in the second. Then, after Espinosa gave KJS United the lead just after Lloyd’s game-tying goal, Lloyd found the back of the net early in the third period to cap the scoring.

Griffin Jozefek had two assists for Mendham (0-0-1), Gavin Marshuetz had a goal and an assist and Tristan Aikenhead also scored.

Espinosa finished with two goals for KJS (0-0-1), while Mitchell Fradkin and Nicolas Rosian each added goals.

WEST ORANGE 9, PARSIPPANY REGIONAL 3

Parsippany Regional surrendered six unanswered goals in the third period as it dropped its season opener, 9-3 to West Orange at Mennen Arena.

Kyle Kirk, Nicholas Sibilia, and David Zilinskis each scored for Parsippany Regional (0-1).
