Two players from Morris County were selected in Saturday’s 2020 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
Morristown-Beard sophomore forward Nick Vantassell and West Morris sophomore goalie Tyler Muszelik were each picked. Vantassell was taken in the 14th round with the 280th selection by the Windsor Spitfires, while Muszelik was called upon just four picks later with the 284th selection (15th round) by the Soo Greyhounds.
Vantassell’s sophomore campaign saw him play a key role in Morristown-Beard’s revitalization. He tallied 16 goals and 19 assists for the Crimson in its run to the Mennen Cup title. In addition to representing his school, he posted 22 goals and 26 assists in just 20 games for the New Jersey Rockets 16U team.
Muszelik, who was selected as a goalie, primarily was used as a defenseman this season for West Morris. He notched five goals and three assists in that role, and made one start in goal for the Wolfpack- a 30-save effort in a loss to Gill St. Bernard’s in the first round of the Haas Cup. He was the team’s primary starter in goal as a freshman. He posted a 1.39 GAA in eight games this season for his club team, the New Jersey Rockets 16U.
