Mendham’s McDonough named N.J. Devils Player of the Month for Jan.

The New Jersey Devils are continuing their “Players of the Month” program for the 28th consecutive season, and their selections for the month of January were announced on Friday.

Mendham sophomore goaltender Connor McDonough was selected as the representative for the Morris County Secondary Schools Ice Hockey League. In six starts in the month of January, McDonough surrendered just five goals, with a sparking save percentage of .966. His team went 4-0-2 in those six starts, which also included a pair of shutouts.

He has continued his strong play going into February, as he recently stopped all 42 shots he faced in a 2-0 upset win over Chatham on Tuesday.

Eight players from around the state- which is divided up by conference- are selected by members of the media as Players of the Month. All winners receive tickets to a Devils game, a plaque presented by a Devils player, to go along with a complimentary dinner.
