Jan. 7 recap: Roxbury edges Kinnelon, Pope John gets 1st Gordon win

Roxbury 2, Kinnelon 1

Ethan Barooah’s goal with 3:06 left in the third period helped Roxbury earn a 2-1 win over Kinnelon at Mennen Arena.

Kinnelon (0-8-3) struck first in the first period on Tim Hausler’s goal. But Roxbury (7-3-1) rebounded with Joe Carey’s second-period goal, followed by Barooah’s game-winner. Ryan Callahan made 16 saves for Roxbury.

Brett Lewis stopped 44 out of the 46 shots he faced for Kinnelon.

Pope John 5, St. Peter’s Prep 4

Alex Blaszak scored twice to lift Pope John to a 5-4 win over St. Peter’s Prep- which was the team’s first Gordon Conference victory of the 2019-20 season.

Lucas Buchanan scored what proved to be the game-winner in a back-and-forth game in the third period, which gave Pope John a 5-3 lead at the time. He finished with a goal and two assists. Chris Abate and Brandan Young each added a goal, while Scott Vanderhoff finished with two assists. Matiss Bars made 29 saves.

Pope John now holds a 3-7-1 overall record, and is 1-4-1 in the Gordon Conference.

Montville 5, Pascack Valley 2

Joe Nuzzi scored twice to lift Montville to a 5-2 win over Pascack Valley-Hills at the American Dream Ice Rink in East Rutherford.

Daniel Scheine had a goal and three assists for Montville (6-3-1). Brendan Perretta and Matt Szwagulinski each chipped in with a goal in the win.

GIRLS

Morristown-Beard 5, Oak Knoll 2

Kaitlin Skorzewski scored twice and had an assist to lift Morristown-Beard to a 5-2 win over Oak Knoll at Twin Oaks Ice Rink in Morristown.

Lilli Warnock scored twice, while Faith Facchini added a goal and two assists for Morristown-Beard (6-1-1). Leah Stecker dished out three assists and Gracie Meyers made eight saves to secure the win.
