Dec. 18 recap: Roxbury tops Montville in Halvorsen showdown

Roxbury 3, Montville 2

Nick Thomas’ shorthanded goal with 1:38 remaining in the game proved to be the game-winner as Roxbury took firm control of the Halvorsen Division with a 3-2 win over Montville at Mennen Arena.

Kyle Jenkins and Kevin Keane each scored for Roxbury (4-1-1), while Ethan Barooah dished out two assists. Ryan Callahan made 26 saves to secure the victory.

Danny Scheine and Joe Nuzzi each scored for Montville (3-1-1). Matt Faulkner made 21 saves in the loss.

Pope John 2, St. Peter’s Prep 2

Alex Blaszak scored twice in a span of 1:07 in the third period to help Pope John earn a 2-2 tie with St. Peter’s Prep at Skylands Ice World.

St. Peter’s Prep led, 2-0, on a pair of goals in the first period. Andrew Buchanan assisted on both of Blaszak’s third-period goals, while Lucas Buchanan and Brendan Young each chipped in with an assist. Matiss Bars made 22 saves.

Pope John is now 0-3-1.

West Morris 4, Gill St. Bernard’s 4

Brenen Lavoie’s power play goal in the third period helped Gill St. Bernard’s earn a 4-4 tie with West Morris at Mennen Arena.

Christian Mote scored twice and had an assist for Gill St. Bernard’s (2-2-2). Lavoie had a goal and an assist, while Eddie McCarthy added a goal and two assists.

Nathan Meola scored twice for West Morris (3-2-1). Nick Francione had a goal and an assist, Max Michaleski dished out two assists, and Matt Healy added a goal.

Park Regional 2, Nutley 2

Park Regional skated to a 2-2 tie with Nutley in the opening game of the Essex Holiday Tournament at Codey Arena.

Mike Shauger and Mike DeRosa each scored for Park (2-1-2). Angelo DePinto and Marco Demartinis each had an assist, while A.J. Schauder made 27 saves.

GIRLS

Morristown-Beard 3, Princeton Day 0

Leah Stecker scored twice to lift Morristown-Beard to a 3-0 win over rival Princeton Day at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

Logan Sutera also scored for Morristown-Beard (4-1-1). Annabel Plante and Lilli Warnock each added assists, while Gracie Meyers made five saves to secure the shutout.

Morristown-Beard outshot Princeton Day, 30-5.
