Dec. 9 recap: Delbarton falls, Madison rolls

Don Bosco Prep 3, Delbarton 1

Delbarton fell for the second time in three games to open the season with a 3-1 loss to Don Bosco Prep at the Ice Vault in Wayne.

It marked Delbarton’s fifth consecutive loss to Don Bosco, as the Ironmen swept all four meetings last season including the Gordon Cup and NJSIAA Non-Public final.

Ben Pendy scored the lone goal for Delbarton (1-2). Brett Cleaves stopped 20 of 23 shots in the loss.

Madison 5, Kinnelon 0

Madison improved its unbeaten record to 2-0-1 with a dominant win over Kinnelon at Mennen Arena.

Jacoby Erickson scored twice and had an assist for Madison. Cormac McNamara added a goal and two assists, while Aidan Niceberg and Matt Leone each scored. Matt Gero dished out three assists and Keaton Tom stopped 19 shots to record his second-consecutive shutout.

Madison out-shot Kinnelon, 48-19.

Bergen Catholic 6, Pope John 0

Pope John is still searching for its first win of the season, as it dropped its second straight with a 6-0 loss to Bergen Catholic at the Ice House in Hackensack.

Mattis Bars made 39 saves in the loss for Pope John (0-2).

GIRLS

Morristown-Beard 2, Summit 1

Katie Ewig scored the go-ahead goal for Morristown-Beard (2-0-1) early in the third period to earn the victory at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

Summit led, 1-0, after the first period, before Anna Bajak tied the score with 10:46 to go in the second. Ewig added the go-ahead tally in the opening minute of the third. Leah Stecker had two assists while Sasha Berniker made 11 saves in the win.
