Dec. 5 recap: Roxbury and Mount Olive triumph, Chatham ties Morristown

Roxbury 7, Sparta-Jefferson 1

Nick Hefferle recorded a hat trick an an assist and was one of three players to tally four points in Roxbury’s 7-1 win over Sparta-Jefferson.

Brian Westergaard had two goals and two assists, while Nick Thomas had four helpers in the win. Joe Carey also scored twice and Ryan Callahan stopped 14 of 15 shots.

Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown 3, Gill St. Bernard’s 1

Mount Olive (2-0-1) remained unbeaten in the early part of the season as it picked up a big win over a strong Gill St. Bernard’s team.

Christian Mote scored the lone goal for Gill St. Bernard’s (1-2), assisted by Brenen Lavoie.

Chatham 2, Morristown 2

Chatham picked up its second tie in as many games this season with a 2-2 draw against Mennen rival Morristown.

Chatham now stands at 0-0-2 through two games. It was the season opener for Morristown.

GIRLS

Morristown-Beard 2, Greenwich (Conn.) 2

Leah Stecker and Anna Bajak each chipped in with a goal to help Morristown-Beard (1-0-1) earn a 2-2 tie with Greenwich of Connecticut.

Stecker opened the game with a goal late in the first off an assist from Bajak, before Greenwich tied it up in the final seconds. Bajak gave the Crimson the lead again in the second, but Greenwich picked up the tying goal in the third.

Gracie Meyers made 27 saves for Morristown-Beard.
