Here are my picks for this week’s Morris/Sussex area Three Stars of the Week, as well as the Top 10 team rankings.
Cole Riley, Montville, Sr., F.
Riley had a 24 hours to remember this weekend as he scored 12 goals across two games, both of which were wins over Roxbury and Newton-Lenape Valley. He scored eight in the 11-6 win over Roxbury, which was his squad’s first win of the season, before netting four more the next day in a 9-2 win over Newton-Lenape Valley.
Brendon Eigner, Mendham, Sr., G.
Eigner continued his stellar season in net for the Minutemen, first by stopping 34 of 36 shots in his team’s 3-2 overtime win over Morris Knolls-Hills. In that game, he became the program’s all-time leader in career saves. The next day, he stopped 35 of 36 in a 2-1 win over Summit. He has a sparkling .942 save percentage this season.
Brandon Strunck, Morris Knolls-Hills, Sr., D.
Strunck has come through for his team in the clutch this season twice now after scoring a power play goal to give his team the lead for good in the third period on Sunday in a 2-1 win over Passaic Tech. He previously scored the OT winner in an upset win over KJS United on Dec. 19.
