Here are the Morris/Sussex 3 Stars of the Week for games played from Jan. 26-Feb. 2. This season, I will also be naming a Girls star of the week from the four area girls teams. At the bottom, you can also find our boys Top 10 for the week.
BOYS THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
Ben Barnhill, West Morris, Sr.
Barnhill had a monster week for the Wolfpack as his team went 2-1. In two wins over Gill St. Bernard’s and Cranford, he amassed 10 points over the two games. He had two goals and two assists in the team’s 6-0 win over Gill St. Bernard’s, and then had four goals and two assists in a 7-5 win over Cranford.
Klaus Harthaus, Vernon, Fr.
The freshman netminder has been a bright spot in a very difficult season for Vernon. Despite facing a ton of shots on a nightly basis, he’s managed to post an .856 save percentage, and this week he led his team to its first win of the season- a 36-save effort in a 4-2 win over Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth-Newark Academy. He also recorded his 1,000th career save- in just one season- in Sunday’s loss to Paramus Catholic.
Nick Worthington, Madison, Jr.
The junior has been a steady presence in the crease all season for the Dodgers, and this week his performance in the clutch helped the Dodgers qualify for the Halvorsen Cup. He posted a .944 save percentage in three games this week, in which his team went 2-0-1. He had a 49-save performance in a 3-3 tie with Montville on Friday, followed by 18 saves and just one goal allowed in a 4-1 win over Gill St. Bernard’s on Sunday. Those last two results helped the Dodgers earn a spot in the Halvorsen Cup.
GIRLS STAR OF THE WEEK
Julie Jasaitis, Morristown-Beard, Sr.
The senior, despite missing time this season, recorded her 100th career point this week with two goals in a 2-2 tie with Trinity Hall. Before that, she had two goals and two assists in a dominant 8-0 win over Oak Knoll. In total, she has 37 goals and 63 assists for her career.
