Here are the Morris/Sussex 3 Stars of the Week for games played from Jan. 12-18. This season, I will also be naming a Girls star of the week from the four area girls teams. At the bottom, you can also find our boys Top 10 for the week.
BOYS THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
Jake McCloud, Morris Knolls-Hills, Sr.
The senior had a big week for Morris Knolls-Hills, as he totaled six goals and three assists in three games this week where his team went 2-1. He had five points (2 g., 3 a.) in a win over Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex, and then recorded a hat trick in the team’s big win over state power Ridge on Saturday.
Shane Melly, Randolph, Jr.
Melly has been absolutely on fire in recent games, as he has recorded four straight multi-goal games. This week alone, he had a hat trick and an assist in a win over Morristown-Beard, followed by two goals and an assist in a win over KJS United. Both wins came over state-ranked opponents at the time.
Chase Olszewski, Park Regional, Jr.
Olszewski hit the 100-point milestone this week with a goal and an assist in his team’s 3-2 win over Madison on Thursday. In three wins this week, he had two goals and five assists for a total of seven points. He now has 67 goals and 35 assists over his career.
GIRLS STAR OF THE WEEK
Hannah Mortazavi, Morristown-Beard, Jr.
The Crimson have had a resurgence after an 0-3-1 start to the year with four-straight wins, and their junior goaltender has been right at the center of it. She has posted a sparkling .940 save percentage this year. This week, she was at the center of two big wins- a 36-save shutout over Princeton Day, which was the No. 1 team in the state at the time, followed by a 31-save performance in a 2-1 win over defending state champion Pingry.
