Morristown-Beard girls continue hot streak with win over state’s top team
Hannah Mortazavi stopped all 31 shots she faced to earn her first shutout of the year as Morristown-Beard took down Princeton Day, No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 5, 2-0 at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.
Emma Fuchs scored the go-ahead power play goal with 9:26 left in the third period for No. 4 Morristown-Beard, which has now won three straight (3-3-1) after an 0-3-1 start to the year. Reid Snyder had a goal in the final two minutes along with an assist.
The Crimson will be back in action today when they take on defending state champion Pingry at 3:30 p.m. at Bridgewater Sports Arena.
Morris Knolls-Hills erases early deficit in win
Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Morris Knolls-Hills rattled off seven unanswered goals in a 7-2 win over Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex in Mennen Division play at Mennen Arena.
Alexei Doherty scored twice in the first period for BSM (0-9, 0-8 Mennen) to give it its first two-goal lead of the year. But Dylan Williams and Cooper James each scored early in the second to tie it up, before Williams gave his team the lead with 5:08 left in the period.
Jake McCloud finished with two goals and three assists for Morris Knolls-Hills (4-8, 3-4 Mennen). Dylan Williams scored twice with an assist, Marek Kazik had a goal and two assists, while Brandon Strunck had three assists. Freshman goalie Kyle Sipple made 15 saves to earn his first career victory.
Jack Baker made 39 saves for BSM. BSM will face Watchung Hills on Friday, while Morris Knolls-Hills will take on Summit on Friday.
Parsippany Regional bounces back after long layoff
After a week off from game action, Parsippany Regional rolled to an 8-1 win over Newark East Side at the Ironbound Recreation Center.
Robert Hemenway scored four times with Sean Coyle dishing out four assists for Parsippany (7-3), which has won three of its last four games. Austin Gudelanis had a goal and an assist, while Joseph Gasparro, Parker Enslow, and Evan Carlson each scored in the win. Andrew Nicholas made 12 saves.
Parsippany will face Vernon today at 5:45 p.m. at Mennen Arena.
Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown falls on the road
Despite a 36-save performance from goaltender Talon Muscolino, Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown fell, 5-3 to Montclair at Clary Anderson Arena.
Dominic Landolfi, Ryan Juckett, and Keegan Ciborski each scored for the Mount Olive tri-op, which fell to 5-6-2 on the year. It will be back in action today against West Morris at 7:45 p.m. at Mennen Arena.
