Here are the Morris/Sussex 3 Stars of the Week for games played from Jan. 5-11. This season, I will also be naming a Girls star of the week from the four area girls teams. At the bottom, you can also find our boys Top 10 for the week.
THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
Egor Andreev, Delbarton, Jr.
Andreev has been having a strong start to the year during Delbarton’s unbeaten run, and came through for his team in its two biggest games of the year this week. He had a goal and an assist in the 3-1 win over Don Bosco Prep on Tuesday, before netting the game-winning goal in the team’s 5-4 overtime win over Christian Brothers on Thursday. Those wins will likely propel the Green Wave to the statewide No. 1 spot on Monday.
Brendon Eigner, Mendham, Jr.
Eigner has been playing terrific hockey for the Minutemen in goal all season with a sparkling .941 save percentage, and is a major reason why his team finds itself in first place in the Halvorsen Division. This week, he recorded back-to-back shutouts in a 6-0 win over West Morris and a 0-0 tie with Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown. He stopped all 60 shots he faced between the two games.
Alex Sonvico, High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny, Sr.
The senior had a monster week for High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny, tallying six goals and seven assists in just three games. He had three goals and three assists in a loss to River Dell to open the week, before recording a hat trick and an assist in a win over Newton-Lenape Valley- which clinched the program’s second Sussex Cup title in three years. Then, he had the game-winning goal in overtime, along with three assists, in the team’s 6-5 win over Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth-Newark Academy.
Honorable Mention: Morris Knolls-Hills’ Jake McCloud reached the 150 career point milestone this week, while Randolph’s Andrew George reached 100 career points.
GIRLS STAR OF THE WEEK
Reid Snyder, Morristown-Beard, Jr.
Snyder had a massive game on Tuesday, as she scored six goals and had an assist in her team’s 10-1 win over Chatham-Millburn, which was the team’s first win of the year. It was a single-game career high in goals for Snyder. She followed it up with a goal in the team’s 4-2 win over Oak Knoll on Thursday.
