Pope John bounces back behind Parillo’s hat trick
Hunter Parillo had a hat trick to lead Pope John to a 5-3 win over Gloucester Catholic in Gordon Conference play at Hollydell Ice Arena.
With the game knotted up at three in the third period, Alex Mizak scored the go-ahead goal with 11:55 to go in the game, before Parillo completed the hat-trick late to help put the game away.
Aidan Perry had a goal and an assist, while Nicholas Colatrella had two assists for the Lions. Mason Giordano made 26 saves inpl the win.
Pope John is now 10-3-1 overall and has won seven of its last eight games. It will face St. Peter’s Prep on Monday.
KJS United’s seven-game unbeaten streak stopped
Kinnelon-Jefferson-Sparta saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Friday evening when it fell, 7-1, to Fair Lawn-Dumont-Bergenfield at Skylands Ice World.
It was the Fair Lawn tri-op’s second big win of the week after it took down reigning Public state champion Northern Highlands, on Monday. Michael Ferrante had four goals and two assists, while Dylan Ferlanti had two goals and four assists for Fair Lawn.
Michael Pandiscia scored the only goal for KJS United, which dropped to 8-2-1 on the season. It was without several key players in this game. It will have a week to get ready for Randolph next Friday in a potential showdown for first place in the Mennen Division at Skylands Ice World.
Chatham girls lose heartbreaker to Trinity Hall
Alex Donoghue scored twice with an assist, but Chatham-Millburn fell, 5-4 to Trinity Hall at Jersey Shore Arena.
Layton Thomas, Simone Claps, and Donoghue all scored in the first period to give the Chatham co-op a 3-1 lead. But it surrendered a goal in the second period before Trinity Hall scored three straight in the third to take the lead. Donoghue scored with 1:34 left to cut the deficit to one, but it was unable to find the tying goal.
Chatham-Millburn fell to 5-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Cohen Division. It will next face Westfield on Tuesday.
Newton-Lenape Valley falls on the road
Despite two goals and an assist from Ty Dellicker, Newton-Lenape Valley fell, 6-3 to Paramus-Lyndhurst-Mahwah at the Ice House in Hackensack.
Arsenni Pastukh had a goal and an assist for NLV, which dropped to 2-10 on the year. It will be right back in action today when it takes on Vernon at 4 p.m., as it looks to snap a six-game losing skid.
Morris Catholic shut out
Joey Rubino made 34 saves, but Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth-Newark Academy fell, 7-0, to Bayonne-Belleville-McNair at Korpi Ice Rink.
Morris Catholic is now 2-7 and will face Roxbury on Sunday.
