Pope John breaks through in third
Liam Amabile scored the go-ahead goal with 8:34 left in the third period as Pope John picked up a 2-0 win over Passaic Tech in the Ice Vault Classic.
Pope John out-shot Passaic Tech, 42-15 in the game, but it took until the third period to get one past PCTI goalie Mason Katz (40 saves). Hunter Parrillo buried an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the win for Pope John, which is now 6-2-1 and will face Livingston on Monday in its final game of the tournament.
KJS United rallies in third period
After surrendering a goal to Wayne early in the third period to fall behind by one, it appeared it may not be KJS United’s night.
But thanks to a pair of shorthanded goals- Braydon Sisco’s to tie, Eddy Brown’s to take th lead- KJS United was able to skate away with a 5-3 win over Wayne in the Ice Vault Classic.
KJS United (6-1-1) extended its unbeaten streak to five with the win. Braydon Sisco finished the game with four goals and an assist, and has now scored a goal in seven of his team’s eight goals. Eddy Brown had a goal and an assist, while Andrew Corrado made 22 saves in the win.
KJS will be back in action on Monday when it faces Morristown at 6:30 p.m. in Mennen Division play at Mennen Arena.
Morris Knolls-Hills drops second-straight
Jake McCloud and Wes Vnenchak each scored for Morris Knolls-Hills, but it ultimately fell, 3-2 to St. Joseph of Metuchen in the Ice Vault Classic.
It was the second-straight one-goal loss for Morris Knolls-Hills, which is now 2-5 on the season. Nick Trento made 19 saves. It will close out the Ice Vault Classic portion of its schedule on Monday when it faces Ramsey at 7 p.m.
Newton-Lenape Valley falls despite Boden’s stellar effort
Patrick Boden made 43 saves as Newton-Lenape Valley fell, 4-0 to West Orange at Skylands Ice World.
Newton-Lenape Valley was out-shot, 47-11 in the game, but Boden was able to keep his team in it with an impressive effort. NLV is now 2-6 on the year and will be off until Friday, when it takes on Tenafly-Cresskill-Leonia.
Madison falls after taking early lead
Madison took a one-goal lead into the third period, but fell, 4-3 to Clifton-Passaic Valley-Cedar Grove at SportsCare Arena.
Lucas Gero had a goal and two assists for the Dodgers (2-7). After Clifton’s Ryan Montana (two goals) tied the game early in the third, Patrick Layng put the Dodgers ahead again just over five minutes in. But Montana tied it again minutes later before Leo Marzullo gave Clifton the lead in the final minutes.
Nick Worthington made 34 saves for the Dodgers. It will face Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown on Monday in Halvorsen play at Mennen Arena.
