Second-seeded Delbarton saw its season come to an end with a 4-2 loss to third-seeded St. Augustine in the NJSIAA Non-Public semifinals at Codey Arena.
It marked the second-straight season that Delbarton’s year came to an end at the hands of St. Augustine, after falling, 3-2, in overtime in last year’s Non-Public final at Prudential Center.
The Green Wave trailed, 2-0 early in the third period after a goal from St. Augustine’s Lucas Riccardi. But it struck back just 40 seconds later on a goal from Max Pendy to cut the deficit to 2-1.
But any time Delbarton seemed to crawl back into it, St. Augustine had a response. Kalib Capecci scored with just over five minutes left to restore the two-goal advantage. Liam Donnelly scored on the power play with 1:40 left to once again cut it to one, but it was unable to find the tying goal and St. Augustine iced it with an empty-netter from Cameron DeLeo with 42 seconds left.
Delbarton finished the season at 17-7.
St. Augustine will face top-seeded Don Bosco in the Non-Public state final on Monday at 1 p.m. at Prudential Center in Newark.
