NON-PUBLIC
Second-seeded Delbarton defeated 10th-seeded Pingry, 3-0, in the NJSIAA Non-Public quarterfinals at SportsCare Arena.
Delbarton will face third-seeded St. Augustine in the semifinals on Wednesday at Codey Arena at 4:30 p.m. It will be a rematch of last year’s Non-Public state final, which St. Augustine won in overtime. It will be the fourth meeting between the teams this year, in which the teams split the regular season series before Delbarton picked up a 4-3 win in the Gordon Cup semifinals.
In another Non-Public quarterfinal, eighth-seeded Pope John came from behind but ultimately fell, 3-2 in overtime to top-seeded Don Bosco at the Ice Vault in Wayne.
Pope John goalie Anthony Conetta stopped 44 of 47 shots as his team was out-shot 47-15 in the game. Don Bosco built a 2-0 lead in the second period, before Johans Bars buried a goal on a 5-on-3 late in the second to cut the deficit to one. Then, with 5:50 left in regulation, Luke Jarosiewicz scored the game-tying goal which ultimately forced overtime.
But in overtime, it was Don Bosco’s Frantisek Netusil who scored 26 seconds in to end Pope John’s hopes of an upset. Don Bosco will face fourth-seeded Christian Brothers in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Codey Arena.
