Feb. 22 NJSIAA Tournament recap

NORTH, PUBLIC QUARTERFINALS
Connor Gilleece scored twice with an assist to lead third-seeded Chatham to a 4-1 win over Montclair in the quarterfinals of the North, Public state tournament at Mennen Arena.

Matt Nacinovich recorded a goal and two assists for Chatham, which advanced to next week’s sectional semifinals, where it will travel to face second-seeded Nothern Highlands.

Dillon Gagliardi and Roman Kostrowski each dished out two assists, while Thomas White chipped in with a goal. Snowden Lange stopped 20 of 22 shots in the win.

Chatham out-shot Montclair, 43-22 in the game.

NORTH, PUBLIC CO-OP QUARTERFINALS

Rylan Gibbons stopped all 37 shots he faced to help send second-seeded KJS United to the semifinals with a 2-0 win over seventh-seeded West Essex-Caldwell in the North, Public Co-op quarterfinals at Skylands Ice World.

Gibbons stood tall for KJS throughout the game, including the first period when it was heavily out-shot. Anthony Prunty and Braydon Sisco each contributed goals in the second period to give KJS the lead.

KJS will now host sixth-seeded Morris Knolls-Hills in the sectional semifinals early next week. The teams met back on Dec. 15, a 4-0 win for KJS United.

Morris Knolls-Hills, the sixth seed, took down third-seeded Pascack Regional, 9-4 at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey, N.Y.

NON-PUBLIC FIRST ROUND
Max Pendy had five points- one goal and four assists- in leading second-seeded Delbarton to an 8-1 win over 15th-seeded Paul VI-Camden Catholic in the first round of the Non-Public state tournament at SportsCare Arena.

Jack Ross had two goals and an assist, while Jack Gerne, John Good, Michael Good, and Egor Andreev each had a goal and an assist. Liam Donnelly also contributed two assists, with Ayden Puppe scoring a goal. Cooper Ranawat made eight saves to earn the win.

Delbarton out-shot Paul VI-Camden Catholic, 77-9 in the game. It will host 10th-seeded Pingry in the quarterfinals next week.

11th-seeded Morristown-Beard was shutout, 4-0, by sixth-seeded Princeton Day to end its 2023-24 season.

Mason Hriczov stopped 32 of 36 shots for Morristown-Beard, which saw its season end with a 10-10-1 record.
