NORTH, PUBLIC FIRST ROUND RECAP
Chatham, seeded third, rallied from a one-goal deficit by scoring four unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 win over 14th-seeded Madison in the first round of the North, Public tournament at Mennen Arena.
Luc D’Costa had a hat trick for Chatham, which advanced to face either sixth-seeded Glen Rock or 11th-seeded Montclair in the quarterfinals later this week. Matt Nacinovich scored once, while Roman Kostrowski and Tripp Connor also scored in the win.
Sam Gero scored a hat trick for Madison, which saw its season end at 8-13 despite a spirited effort.
Jase Zangara had a six-point night in leading top-seeded and unbeaten Randolph to a 10-0 win over 16th-seeded Millburn in the North, Public first round state tournament.
Daniel Sharkey scored twice with three assists for Randolph, which is now 20-0-1. Andrew George scored twice and had two assists, and Shane Melly scored twice. Keegan Melly dished out three assists, as Randolph out-shot Millburn, 39-5.
Randolph will face ninth-seeded Livingston in the quarterfinals later this week.
NORTH, PUBLIC CO-OP FIRST ROUND RECAP
Braydon Sisco had a hat trick and two assists in leading second-seeded KJS United to a 9-1 win over 15th-seeded Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown in the first round of the North, Public Co-op state tournament at Skylands Ice World.
Anthony Prunty scored twice with two assists, and Adam Stefancik dished out two assists. It was the third win for KJS this season over Mo-Ho-Ha, and earned itself a spot in the quarterfinals, where it will host seventh-seeded West Essex-Caldwell on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Skylands Ice World.
Luke Dickerson had three goals and an assist to propel sixth-seeded Morris Knolls-Hills to a 5-3 win over 11th-seeded Lakeland-Hawthorne-Waldwick in the first round of the North, Public Co-op state tournament at the Ice Vault in Wayne.
Dickerson scored twice in the first period to give Knolls-Hills a two-goal lead, and then scored the go-ahead goal in the second after Lakeland rallied to tie it. Brendan Gleason and Marek Kazik each scored, with Ryan Nevins dishing out two assists. Nick Trento made 18 saves in the win.
Knolls-Hills will face third-seeded Pascack Regional in the quarterfinals later this week.
