Feb. 10 Cup recap: Madison girls move to Annis Cup final; Milestones for West Morris and Vernon in losses

The Madison girls team will play in a Cup final for the first time in program history on Tuesday after the top-seeded Dodgers took down fourth-seed Princeton, 11-1, in the semifinals of the Annis Cup at Mennen Arena.

Brooke Gundlach led the way with a five-point performance, which included two goals and three assists. Mia McSherry contributed two goals and an assist, with Leah Jobe netting two goals. Ava Haralampoudis and Athena Halewicz each had a goal and an assist.

Clementine Dickson-Child made six saves for Madison, which improved to 9-4. It will take on the winner of Sunday’s semifinal game between third-seeded Cranford and second-seeded Westfield in Tuesday’s final, currently slated for 4 p.m. at Codey Arena.

MILESTONES FOR WEST MORRIS AND VERNON IN LOSSES

Behind a hat trick from Noel Gaynor, Morristown took down West Morris, 7-4 for the team’s third-straight win at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.

In the loss, West Morris’ Zach Knopf had a goal and an assist to reach 100 career points. He now has 38 goals and 62 assists to his name. His teammate, Ben Barnhill, had an assist and is now at 98 career points- and can reach the 100-point milestone in Wednesday’s Haas Cup final.

Another milestone for an area team came in Vernon’s 12-2 loss to Clifton-Cedar Grove-Passaic Valley. Vernon goaltender Brady Hendricks recorded the 1,000th save of his career- all of which came in just two seasons- as he made 24 saves in the loss.

Hendricks now has 1,021 career saves.
