Feb. 9 Cup playoff recap: Morristown-Beard girls return to Librera Cup final

JASAITIS LEADS MORRISTOWN-BEARD GIRLS BACK TO LIBRERA FINAL

Julie Jasaitis had a hat trick and an assist to lead top-seeded Morristown-Beard to a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Oak Knoll in the Librera Cup semifinals at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

The win advanced Morristown-Beard back to the Librera Cup final, where it will face second-seeded Princeton Day on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Codey Arena. Morristown-Beard defeated Pingry in the inaugural championship game last winter.

Jasaitis had a natural hat trick, scoring once in the first followed by two in the second to give her team a 3-0 lead. Jessica Sperling had a goal and an assist, while Kailin Kane added a goal and two assists for the Crimson. Marilee Vartanian dished out three assists in the win.

Hannah Mortazavi stopped all 27 shots to earn her fifth shutout of the year.

CHATHAM GIRLS FALL TO SUMMIT DESPITE LATE RALLY IN COHEN CUP

Despite a late attempt to come back, fourth-seeded Chatham fell, 4-2, to top-seeded Summit in the Cohen Cup semifinals at Warinanco Park.

After Simone Claps gave Chatham the lead in the second period, Summit rallied for three-straight to take a 3-1 lead with 5:53 left. Layton Thomas finished off a feed from Claps with 3:57 to go to bring the team within one, but Summit hit the empty net in the final minute.

Chatham fell to 8-6-2 with the loss.
