Jan. 26 notebook: KJS’ Myhren wins 200th game, Randolph clinches Mennen top seed

KJS UNITED’S MYHREN WINS 200TH CAREER GAME

Kinnelon-Jefferson-Sparta coach Jeff Myhren picked up his 200th career victory courtesy of his team’s 6-4 win over Cranford at Skylands Ice World.

Myhren, who is in his 18th year coaching Kinnelon and has led the United tri-op since its formation in 2020, now holds a career record of 200-169-41. His KJS United squad is now 10-3 this season and holds sole possession of first place in the Halvorsen Division with a 5-0 record.

Braydon Sisco and Adam Stefancik each had two goals and an assist for KJS. Anthony Prunty and Anthony Pandiscia also scored, with Logan Winslow and Jake Prunty each recording two assists. Rylan Gibbons made 25 saves to earn the win.

RANDOLPH CLINCHES MENNEN TOP SEED, ALSO DOWNS HUNTERDON CENTRAL

Before Randolph even took the ice for a big out-of-conference test against Hunterdon Central on Friday night, it received some good news.

Thanks to Morristown-Beard’s win over Chatham, Randolph officially clinched the Mennen Division regular season title and the top seed for the upcoming Mennen Cup. It currently has a 6-0 record in the division.

Randolph went on to earn a big win on the road over Hunterdon Central, 6-3, at Flemington Ice Arena. The Rams remain the only unbeaten team in the state with a 14-0-1 record.

Coach Rich McLaughlin picked up his 498th career victory with the win, and will go for 499 on Monday afternoon when his Rams take on Morris Knolls-Hills at 4:30 p.m. at Mennen Arena.

MORRIS KNOLLS-HILLS SNAPS SKID WITH BIG ROAD WIN OVER WALL

Jake McCloud recorded four goals and two assists to lead Morris Knolls-Hills to a big 7-3 win over Wall at Jersey Shore Arena.

Morris Knolls-Hills held a 4-1 lead, before Wall struck for a pair of goals midway through the third to cut the deficit to just one. But McCloud scored on the power play 1:28 later for an insurance goal, before Brendon Gleason buried a shorthanded goal with 4:30 left to make it a three-goal lead. McCloud scored an empty-netter in the final minute to seal it.

SPERLING CONTINUES BIG WEEK FOR MORRISTOWN-BEARD GIRLS

Jessica Sperling is having a week to remember for the Morristown-Beard girls team.

Including Friday’s four-goal, one-assist performance, Sperling has eight goals and five assists in three games for the Crimson this week for a total of 13 points. Her performance Friday helped Morristown-Beard take down Pingry, 6-1, at Twin Oaks Ice Rink.

Julie Jasaitis had three assists, while Reid Snyder had a goal and an assist and Kailin Kane also scored. It marked the third-straight win for Morristown-Beard, which improved to 10-2. Hannah Mortazavi stopped 23 shots in the win.

CHATHAM GIRLS TAKE DOWN MADISON

Simone Claps and Sarah Nacinovich each finished with two goals and an assist to lift Chatham to a 6-2 win over Madison at Union Sports Arena.

Layton Thomas and Bronwyn Shefter each had a goal and an assist, as Chatham improved to 5-5-2 on its senior night. Megan Cincotta stopped 11 of 13 shots, while Emma Acomb stopped all 15 she faced in a combined effort.

Leah Jobe and Maya Metzler each scored for Madison (8-3).
