Jan. 22 notebook: KJS, Mendham, Gill St. Bernard’s earn key divisional wins

KJS UNITED STAYS UNBEATEN IN HALVORSEN DIVISION
Jake Prunty finished with a goal and two assists to lead Kinnelon-Jefferson-Sparta to a 6-2 win over Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown in Halvorsen Division action at Mennen Arena.

With the win, KJS maintained its stranglehold on first place in the Halvorsen with a perfect 5-0 record. It has now won 13-consecutive divisional regular season games dating back to last season.

Cormac Gibbons scored twice for KJS (9-3). Anthony Prunty had a goal and an assist, while Adam Stefancik and Logan Winslow each chipped in with a goal. Michael Pandiscia had two assists.

Rylan Gibbons made 23 saves for KJS.

MENDHAM HOLDS OFF MADISON IN KEY HALVORSEN BATTLE
Ian Aitkenhead and David Kalis each scored for Mendham in a 2-1 win over Madison in a Halvorsen Division game at Mennen Arena.

Brendon Eigner made 27 saves for Mendham, which is now 3-1-1 in the Halvorsen Division, and moved into second place with seven points ahead of Madison’s six. The win clinched a season-series split between the two teams after Madison won, 3-2, on Dec. 28.

Sam Gero scored the lone goal for Madison, which is now 3-3 in the division and is in third place. Bryan Worthington made 17 saves in the loss.

GILL ST. BERNARD’S STAYS ALIVE FOR TOP SEED IN HAAS CUP
Gill St. Bernard’s knocked off Mountain Lakes-Boonton, 4-1 in a Haas Division game at Mennen Arena.

The Knights improved to 6-2-1 in the Haas Division with just one divisional game remaining, against Park Regional next Monday. It is now tied for first place with West Morris at 13 points, although West Morris (6-0-1) has two games in hand.

Mountain Lakes-Boonton dropped to 1-6 in the division. It still has an outside shot at qualifying for the Haas Cup, but it will need to win out, and would need losses from Montville and Park Regional, plus tiebreakers to go its way.
