THREE STARS OF THE WEEK (Jan. 14-20)
Anthony Conetta, Pope John, G, So.
The sophomore, in his first season as Pope John’s starter, has been on a roll recently. He has not surrendered a goal in three-consecutive games, starting with a 3-0 shutout of Morristown-Beard on Jan. 8, followed by back-to-back shutouts this week of St. Joseph (Met.) in which he made 10 saves, followed by a 29-save shutout of St. Joseph of Montvale. In total, he has stopped the last 73 shots he has faced for the Lions.
Kyle Piechnik, Madison, F, Sr.
Piechnik came through in the clutch for the Dodgers in a big overtime win over Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex this week. He finished with two goals and an assist, and scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Madison to a dramatic 5-4 win. The win propelled the Dodgers to sole possession of second place in the Halvorsen division.
Robert Hemenway, Parsippany Regional, F, So.
Hemenway’s five-point performance helped Parsippany Regional hand Newton-Lenape Valley its first divisional loss of the year. He had a hat trick and two assists, and was involved in all five of his team’s goals in a 5-3 win. The win clinched a Charette Cup playoff berth, which is the program’s first playoff berth since the Haas Cup in 2019-20. He also had a hat trick in the team’s win over Bayonne earlier in the week.
