WEST MORRIS RALLIES PAST MONTVILLE IN THIRD PERIOD
Tommy Togno scored the go-ahead goal for West Morris in the third period as it held off Montville, 6-4, in a Haas Division game at Mennen Arena.
West Morris held a 4-1 lead in the second period, before Montville’s Cole Riley and Nicolas Ponikowski scored 36 seconds apart late in the second to cut it to 4-3. Matt Trifari scored 42 seconds into the third to tie it up at four, before Togno scored just under three minutes later to restore the lead for the Wolfpack.
Togno finished with four goals for West Morris, which improved to 10-2-1 overall with a 6-0-1 mark in the Haas. Dylan Wilmott finished with a goal and an assist, Michael Ferry had two assists, and Zach Knopf added a goal in the win. Michael Treiber made 23 saves in the win.
Trifari had two goals and an assist for Montville, which dropped to 6-7 overall with a 4-4 mark in the Haas. With the loss, Montville is out of contention for the top seed in the division.
HEMENWAY LIFTS PARSIPPANY REGIONAL TO UPSET OF NEWTON-LENAPE VALLEY
Thanks to a three-goal, two-assist performance from Robert Hemenway, Parsippany Regional picked up its biggest win of the season- a 5-3 triumph over first-place Newton-Lenape Valley at Skylands Ice World.
It was the first Charette Division loss for Newton-Lenape Valley, which dropped to 5-1 in the division and fell to 8-5 overall. On the other hand, Parsippany clinched a berth in the Charette Cup, which will be the program’s first appearance in postseason play since it qualified for the Haas Cup in 2019-20. It is now 3-3 in the division.
Hemenway, Sean Coyle, and Joseph Gasparro all scored to give Parsippany a 3-0 lead. Ty Dellicker scored twice- the first coming with 3:10 left in the second and the next with 12:15 left in the third, to cut NLV’s deficit to 3-2. But Hemenway scored two goals in 4:29 to extend Parsippany’s lead.
Maksym Pastukh scored in the final minutes to bring NLV within 5-3, but was unable to get any closer. Parsippany goalie Andrew Nicholas stopped 28 of 31 shots to secure the victory.
HIGH POINT-WALLKILL VALLEY-KITTATINNY WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT
After surrendering a goal 30 seconds into the game, High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny rattled off nine straight goals to roll to a 9-1 win over Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth in a Charette battle at Skylands Ice World.
Alex Sonvico tied it up just a minute after it had surrendered a goal to Morris Catholic’s Cameron Westrick. Michael Sadowski scored with 9:42 left in the period to give his team the lead for good, before Alex Sonvico scored 57 seconds later to extend the lead.
Sadowski finished with four goals for High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny, which improved to 10-3 overall and won its seventh-straight game. It is now 4-1 in the Charette Division, and currently is in second place. Sonvico finished with a hat trick and two assists, while Anthony Tokar and Sebastian Hamarcak each had a goal. Landon Healy finished with six saves and Madison Molta made five in a combined effort.
Morris Catholic dropped to 0-15 overall with an 0-6 mark in the Charette.
PARK REGIONAL RACES PAST VERNON
Matthew McDermott and Michael Capozzi each had four points (two goals, two assists) in leading Park Regional to a 7-2 win over Vernon in a crossover game at Skylands Ice World.
Vernon’s Luke Zabriskie gave his team the lead with 1:05 left in the first, before Chase Olszewski scored with 16 seconds left to knot it up at one. Capozzi’s goal early in the second period gave Park Regional the lead, and goals from McDermott and Giovanni Bruno early in the third gave the team a comfortable 4-1 lead.
Olszewski, Bruno, and Frankie Scrocco each had a goal and an assist for Park Regional, which won its fourth-straight game to improve to 9-5 overall. Anthony Perrello made 13 saves in the win.
Christopher Gay also scored for Vernon (2-8).
