RILEY MAKES 1,000TH SAVE, TRIFARI CLOSES IN ON 100 IN MONTVILLE WIN
Matt Trifari had a hat trick- including the go-ahead goal in the third period- to lift Montville to a 5-1 win over Gill St. Bernard’s in a Haas Division battle at Mennen Arena.
Trifari finished with a hat trick and an assist for a total of four points, and he is now just one point shy of 100 for his career. Goaltender Alexis Riley, on the other hand, recorded her 1,000th save of her career- becoming the third female goaltender in the state to do so this season.
The game was a goaltending dual between Riley and Luc Jansson (26 saves) through two periods, with the teams tied at one. Trifari gave his team the lead 3:03 into the third, before Cole Riley doubled the lead with six minutes left.
Trifari added an empty-netter, and then Michael Maly added a goal seconds later to close out the scoring.
The win improved Montville to 4-2 in the Haas Division and also marked the first divisional loss of the year for Gill St. Bernard’s, which is now 4-1-1. Montville has now won three-straight games to improve its overall record to 6-5.
JONES, TARTAGLIONE LEAD MORRISTOWN-BEARD TO FIRST MENNEN WIN
Evan Jones and Ryan Tartaglione each recorded three points to lead Morristown-Beard to a 5-1 win over Morris Knolls-Hills in a Mennen Division game at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.
It was Morristown-Beard’s first divisional win of the year, improving their record to 1-2-1, which vaulted it into the fourth and final Mennen Cup playoff spot for the time being. It is now 5-4-1 overall.
Jones had two goals and an assist, while Tartaglione had a goal and two assists. John Gonnella had two assists, Lucas Krzanowski chipped in with a goal and an assist, and Nicholas Zayas scored a goal.
Goalie Mason Hriczov continued his strong freshman season, stopping 29 of 30 shots. He now has a sparkling .929 save percentage in seven games for the Crimson.
Dylan Williams scored for Morris Knolls-Hills, which is now 4-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the division.
BYRNE HELPS KEEP MORRISTOWN’S WINNING WAYS GOING
Jackson Byrne had a hat trick and an assist to lead Morristown to a 7-4 win over Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown at Mennen Arena.
It was the fourth win in five games for Morristown, which is now 4-5-1 overall.
The Colonials led 5-2 early in the second period after Byrne scored twice in seven seconds to complete the hat trick. Dominic Landolfi and Daniel Testa scored for Mo-Ho-Ha to close the gap to one, but Noel Gaynor and Willem Kerr scored in the third to provide insurance goals for Morristown.
Scott Williams had four assists for Morristown. Wesley Thomas had a goal and an assist, Aidan Ross scored a goal, and Liam Wilson dished out two assists.
Daniel Testa scored twice for Mo-Ho-Ha, which is now 1-11-1.
DELBARTON’S WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY RIVAL CBA
Delbarton’s six-game winning streak was stopped by rival Christian Brothers in a 6-3 loss at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.
Jack Gerne and Liam Donnelly scored first period goals to give the Green Wave an early 2-1 lead. But CBA scored four-straight to build a commanding 5-2 advantage by the middle of the second period, and never looked back from there.
Michael Good also scored for Delbarton, which dropped to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the division.
CHATHAM GIRLS TIE PINGRY
Sarah Nacinovich scored two goals for the Chatham girls team as it skated to a 4-4 tie with Pingry at Bridgewater Sports Arena.
Chatham trailed, 4-3, but Alexandra Donoghue scored with 8:50 left in the third to knot the score up at four. Donoghue and Simone Claps each had a goal and an assist, and Layton Thomas dished out two assists.
Chatham is now 4-3-2 on the season.
