Jan. 10 notebook: Jasaitis’ heroics lift Morristown-Beard girls in OT

JASAITIS’ HEROICS PROPEL MORRISTOWN-BEARD GIRLS IN OT

Julie Jasaitis scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime to lead Morristown-Beard to a 2-1 win over Oak Knoll at Rock Ice in Dunellen.

Jasaitis scored early in the second to give her team the lead, before Oak Knoll’s Tallula Stebbins netted the tying goal in the same period. But in overtime, Kailin Kane fed Jasaitis for the game-winner to improve the Crimson’s record to 7-1. It is now a perfect 5-0 in the NJIIHL-Librera Division.

Hannah Mortazavi made 14 saves in the win.

VERNON GETS FIRST WIN

Christopher Gay had two goals and four assists as Vernon picked up its first win of the season with an impressive 11-3 win over Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth in a Charette game at Mennen Arena.

It marked the first win of the season and the first win in the coaching career of Vernon’s first-year head coach in Nicholas VanDerlofske.

Jake Chromcik scored four times with an assist, while Luke Zabriskie had two goals and two assists for the Vikings.

Vernon is now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the Charette, which is good enough for fourth place.

Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in the Charette.

PARK REGIONAL HOLDS OFF MOUNTAIN LAKES-BOONTON

Park Regional earned a 3-1 win over Mountain Lakes-Boonton in a key Haas Division game at Mennen Arena.

Park Regional improved to 2-3 in the division and holds sole possession of the fourth and final Haas Cup playoff spot, halfway through its divisional schedule. It is now 6-5 overall.

Mountain Lakes-Boonton is now 1-4 in the Haas with a 3-6 overall record.

RANDOLPH WITH ANOTHER DOMINANT WIN

Andrew George had a hat trick to lead Randolph to an 8-0 win over West Essex-Caldwell at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.

Jase Zangara had a goal and two assists and Daniel Sharkey dished out three assists for the Rams, which improved to 10-0-1. Vincent Crisafulli scored twice, while Ryan Thomas contributed two assists. John Krynicki stopped all 13 shots for his third shutout of the season.
