Jan. 4 notebook: Madison girls continue breakout year at The Rock

MADISON GIRLS WIN IN OVERTIME AT THE ROCK

Athena Halewicz scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead Madison to a 2-1 win over Randolph in a game played at the Prudential Center in Newark.

Halewicz scored the game-tying goal with 1:09 left in the first period, and then netted the game-winner 1:34 into overtime to improve Madison to 5-1. The five wins are a program record for the Dodgers, which became a separate program during the 2019-20 season. It is now 4-0 in the NJIIHL Annis Division.

Iris Piskula made 14 saves before giving way to Clementine Dickson-Child who stopped all 16 shots she faced.

Joelle Yurchuk scored the only goal for Randolph, which fell to 1-4. Stephanie Xhumba stopped 33 shots in the loss.

DELBARTON KEEPS ROLLING WITH WIN OVER ST. AUGUSTINE

In a rematch of last year’s Non-Public state final, Delbarton was able to pull away for a 5-0 win over St. Augustine at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.

George Cote made 24 saves to earn his first career shutout, as Delbarton won its sixth game in a row to improve to 7-1 on the season. Liam Donnelly led the way offensively with a goal and two assists, while Max Pendy contributed a goal and an assist. Jack Gerne, Aidan Pasic, and Michael Good also found the back of the net.

Delbarton will next host the state’s No. 1 team in Don Bosco Prep on Tuesday at 4:40 p.m.

JANSSON’S BIG PERFORMANCE HELPS GILL ST. BERNARD’S TIE WEST MORRIS

Thanks to a 40-save effort from Luc Jansson, Gill St. Bernard’s was able to secure a 1-1 tie with West Morris in a battle for the top spot in the Haas division at Mennen Arena.

Both teams are now 3-0-1 in the division and tied for first place.

Jake Salamone gave West Morris the lead on a goal in the first period, but Porter Clark found the back of the net on the power play midway through the third to tie the game at one. While each side had solid chances in the overtime period, neither was able to find the game-winner.

Michael Treiber made 20 saves for West Morris.

DICKERSON SCORES TWICE IN KNOLLS-HILLS WIN

Luke Dickerson found the back of the net twice in leading Morris Knolls-Hills to a 4-1 win over Mendham in a crossover game at Mennen Arena.

Ryan Nevins and Brendan Gleason each scored, while Tommy Ryerson dished out two assists for Knolls-Hills, which improved to 4-4-1 overall. Nick Trento stopped 14 of 15 shots in the win.

Ian Aitkenhead scored the lone goal for Mendham, which fell to 4-5-1.

TRIFARI LEADS MONTVILLE TO BIG HAAS WIN

Matt Trifari completed a hat-trick to lead Montville to a 5-3 win over Roxbury at Mennen Arena.

Montville improved to 2-2 in the Haas Division, giving it sole possession of third place. It is now 4-5 overall, and it snapped a three-game losing streak.

Roxbury fell to 1-4 in the division.
