Jan. 3 notebook: Randolph wins again, KJS keeps rolling

RANDOLPH DOWNS MORRISTOWN-BEARD, REMAINS UNBEATEN

Through seven games, Randolph raced to a 6-0-1 mark largely on the backs of an offense which scored at least four goals in every game.

On Wednesday, it finally was held to under four goals in a game. But Randolph continued to roll, as it put together a vintage defensive performance in a 3-1 win over Morristown-Beard at Mennen Arena.

Andrew George scored all three goals for the Rams to notch the first hat trick of his high school career. Daniel Sharkey and Jase Zangara each recorded three assists in helping Randolph improve to 7-0-1 and 3-0 in the Mennen division. It held Morristown-Beard to just 17 shots, with John Krynicki making 16 saves.

Morristown-Beard, on the other hand, fell to 4-3-1 overall and is still in search of its first divisional win with an 0-2-1 record. Lucas Krzanowski scored the lone goal in the first period, while Mason Hriczov put in a 29-save effort.

KJS UNITED TAKES DOWN BERNARDS-SOMERVILLE-MIDDLESEX

Adam Stefancik tallied three goals and two assists for KJS United in a 6-2 win over Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex in a Halvorsen contest at Mennen Arena.

Anthony Pandiscia scored twice with two assists, and Michael Pandiscia added a goal and two assists for KJS. Jake Prunty had two assists, while Rylan Gibbons made 17 saves to earn the win.

KJS improved to 5-3 overall with a perfect 3-0 mark in the Halvorsen division.

Ryan Leonard and Lincoln Moriarity each scored, with Oliver Feco adding two assists for BSM. It fell to 3-5-1 overall and is now 2-2 in the division.

CLAPS SENDS CHATHAM GIRLS PAST RANDOLPH

Simone Claps finished with a hat trick in leading the Chatham girls to a dominant 7-2 win over Randolph at SportsCare Arena.

Layton Thomas added two goals and an assist for Chatham, which is now 4-3 overall with the win. It improved to 3-1 in the NJIIHL-Cohen division. Josie Pruss chipped in with a goal and an assist, with Alexandra Donoghue adding three assists. Megan Cincotta made 17 saves.

Joelle Yurchuk scored both goals for Randolph, which fell to 1-3.

CHATHAM BOYS DOWNED BY RIDGE
Chatham’s six-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Ridge, in a 4-2 loss at Rock Ice in Dunellen.

Matt Nacinovich scored with 2:41 left in the second period to tie the score at two. But Ridge earned a pair of goals in the third period to earn the win.

Nacinovich finished with a goal and an assist, and Connor Gilleece also scored for Chatham, which fell to 6-3 overall.

PARK REGIONAL RACES PAST NEWTON-LENAPE VALLEY

Michael Capozzi had a hat trick and an assist to lead Park Regional to a dominant 10-3 win over Newton-Lenape Valley at Mennen Arena in a Haas-Charette crossover game.

Matthew McDermott scored twice with an assist, and Chase Olszewski added two goals for Park Regional, which improved to 4-4 on the year with its second-straight win. Colin Mullooly and Frankie Scrocco each contributed two assists, with Giovanni Bruno, Sean Breen, and Nick Monaco each scoring a goal.

Newton-Lenape Valley fell to 7-3 and saw its six-game winning streak stopped. It was without the services of top scorers Maksym Pastukh and Brayden Dabrowski for this game. Justin Zappe dished out three assists. Matt Finn had a goal and an assist, while Kayla Lathan and Ty Dellicker each scored in the loss.

VERNON’S LATE COMEBACK ATTEMPT FAILS

Despite a third-period rally, Vernon fell to 0-5 on the season in a 7-3 loss to Old Tappan-New Milford-Demarest.

The Vikings fell into a 5-0 hole through two periods, but Rick Bennett, Luke Zabriskie, and Zach Crozier all scored in a span of 3:26 early in the third to cut the deficit to just two. But Old Tappan buried an empty-netter with 1:26 left, and added another insurance goal for good measure in the final seconds to secure the win.

Zabriskie finished with a goal and two assists. Brady Hendricks made 46 saves on 52 shots in the loss.
