Dec. 30 notebook: Randolph’s offense does it again, Byrne scores 5 for Morristown

RANDOLPH’S OFFENSE KEEPS ROLLING

Make it seven games of four or more goals for Randolph, as the Rams raced to a 9-2 win over Middletown South at the Ice Vault Holiday Classic.

The Rams had a 4-0 lead after the first period, but surrendered two in the second, and momentum was shifting towards Middletown South. But it responded by scoring five unanswered goals in the third period to pull away and improve to 6-0-1 on the season.

Keegan Melly had five points (2 g., 3 a.) and Shane Melly had four points (2 g., 2 a.). Jase Zangara and Ryan Thomas each contributed two goals and an assist, while Daniel Sharkey also scored. John Krynicki stopped 27 of 29 shots, as Randolph out-shot Middletown South, 54-29 in the game.

Randolph will resume Mennen division play on Wednesday when it faces Morristown-Beard at 4 p.m. at Mennen Arena.

BYRNE SCORES FIVE AS MORRISTOWN DOWNS ORATORY

Jackson Byrne scored a career-high of five goals in leading Morristown to a 6-2 win over Oratory at SportsCare Arena in Randolph.

It was Morristown’s second-straight win after earning an impressive win over KJS United on Friday. It improved to 2-4-1 with the win.

Oratory led, 2-0 in the first period, but Byrne scored before the end of the first, before adding a second in the middle frame to tie it up. He then scored three more in the third to give his team a 5-2 advantage. Emmet Davis closed out the scoring with his first career goal.

Liam Wilson dished out four assists for Morristown. Thatcher Neville made 17 saves in the win.

Morristown will be back in action against Bridgewater-Raritan on Friday as it looks to extend its winning streak to three.

KJS UNITED RALLIES PAST WEST MILFORD-PEQUANNOCK

Anthony Prunty scored twice to lift Kinnelon-Jefferson-Sparta to a 5-2 win over West Milford-Pequannock at the Ice Vault Holiday Classic.

The win snapped a two-game skid for KJS United, which improved to 4-3. It trailed, 2-0 after the first period, but struck for two in the second period before tallying three late goals in the third to pick up the win.

Braydon Sisco had a goal and two assists and Anthony Pandiscia had a goal and an assist. Joey Kopec chipped in with a goal in the win. Rylan Gibbons made 22 saves.

West Milford-Pequannock fell to 7-2 with the loss.

KJS will take on Bernards-Somerville-Middlesex on Wednesday in Halvorsen play.

NEWTON-LENAPE VALLEY HOLDS ON FOR SIXTH-STRAIGHT

Maksym Pastukh recorded his seventh hat trick of the year to lead Newton-Lenape Valley to a 5-4 win over Nutley-Columbia-Bloomfield at Skylands Ice World.

It marked Pastukh’s sixth-straight game with a hat trick, and now has 22 goals and five assists to his name on the year. Joey Gallucci buried the go-ahead goal with 3:29 left in the third to snap a 4-4 tie, as NLV won its sixth-straight game. Jack McKenna added a goal and an assist for the co-op, which is now 7-2 on the season.

Ryan Salerno made 34 saves in the win. Newton-Lenape Valley will face Park Regional on Wednesday in its next game.

HIGH POINT-WALLKILL VALLEY-KITTATINNY WINS THIRD-STRAIGHT

Michael Sadowski scored two goals to lead High Point-Wallkill Valley-Kittatinny to a 4-1 win over Kearny-North Arlington-Secaucus at Skylands Ice World.

William Schreiber and Alex Sonvico each scored as the tri-op won its third-straight game and improved to 6-3 overall. Sebastian Hamarcak dished out two assists, while Landon Healy made eight saves in the win.

It will face Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth on Tuesday as it resumes Charette division play and looks to make it four wins in a row.
