NACINVOICH’S OT GOAL LIFTS CHATHAM TO FIRST WIN
The first MCSSIHL game to go to overtime took place on Monday when Morristown and Morristown-Beard ended in a tie. But for the first time on Wednesday, a winner was determined in overtime, as Matt Nacinovich’s goal with five seconds left in overtime propelled Chatham to a dramatic 3-2 win over Mendham at Mennen Arena.
Mendham led, 2-1 through two periods on goals from Ian Aitkenhead and Will Andrews. But Chatham tied it up on Thomas White’s shorthanded goal, before Nacinvoich buried his second of the game just before overtime ended to secure the win.
Brendon Eigner made 37 saves for Mendham, while Nate May turned aside 15 shots for Chatham.
GILL ST. BERNARD’S HOLDS OFF ROXBURY
In a back-and-forth contest, Gill St. Bernard’s picked up a 5-4 win over Roxbury thanks to Brendan Binder’s goal with 1:10 remaining at Mennen Arena.
The win improved Gill St. Bernard’s to 2-0 in the Haas division. Roxbury is now 1-1 in the division.
WEST MORRIS’ HIGH-POWERED OFFENSE PRODUCES AGAIN
For the second-straight game to open the season, West Morris put on a show offensively, as it took down Mountain Lakes-Boonton 12-3 at Mennen Arena.
The Wolfpack came out flying, scoring seven goals in the first period en route to the win. In just two games, it has scored a total of 21 goals after a 9-6 win over Montville in its opener.
Freshman Rhone Armijo tallied two goals and two assists for West Morris, which is now 2-0 in the Haas. Zach Knopf had a hat trick, Tommy Togno and Layton Cummings each had a goal and two assists, while Michael Ferry contributed two goals and an assist. Jake Salamone dished out three assists.
A.J. Wenzel and Kyle Wenzel each had a goal and an assist as Mountain Lakes-Boonton dropped to 0-2.
DELBARTON TAKES DOWN PINGRY
Liam Donnelly and Jack Gerne each had a goal and an assist as Delbarton bounced back from its first loss of the year with a 5-0 win over Pingry at SportsCare Arena.
Matteo Conte, Jack Ross, and Max Pendy each scored for Delbarton. Cooper Ranawat finished with an 11-save shutout.
RANDOLPH GIRLS OPEN WITH WIN
Joelle Yurchuk had a goal and three assists to lead Randolph to a season-opening 6-1 win over Cranford at SportsCare Arena.
Jaclyn Mars, Ava Shadwell, Ellen Dellaglio, Olivia Olechowski, and Lia Carroll each scored for Randolph. Stephanie Xhumba made 22 saves in the win.
Randolph out-shot Cranford, 38-23.
